West African Youth Congress gets new Secretary-General

The West African Youth Congress (WAYC) has installed its new Secretary General and executives, to pilot the affairs of the body for the next four years. The event which took place at the conference room of the Nicon Luxury Hotel Abuja, was marked with the official handling over of the WAYC secretariat documents to the newly elected Secretary-General, Comrade Mohammed Marafa, by the immediate past Secretary General. According to the Citation of Mohammed Marafa read at the event, the New Secretary-General was Special Assistant Students liaison to Former Governor of Adamawa and President Arewa Youth Awareness Forum.

In his acceptance speech, pledged the readiness of the new executives to work towards repositioning the West African Subregion and to bequeath a brighter future to the youth.

“WAYC is poised to source and to avail employment opportunities to the youth, in addition to organizing activities to bring the youths and government together to discuss issues of interest to our subregion.

“Our objective is to provide educational support for orphans, indigent pupils and prioritizing girl-child education. Against this backdrop, we’ll be working on reaching an MoU with some developed country Embassies to provide industrial/ entrepreneurship training to about one million youth to reach their goals.”

Marafa further announced the appointment of Amb. Emmanuel George JP, as the Chairman of WAYC Advisory Board and Hajiya Aminatou Abdoulkarim as Secretary of the board.

Highlights of the event included the conveyance of medals and awards to distinguishing Leaders and supporters of Youth causes in West Africa. The awardees were Barr. Boss Gida Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Polycarp T. Shango; Hajiya Turai Umaru Musa Yar’adua, Former First Lady of Nigeria, Represented by her Son, Shehu Umaru Musa Yar’adua and Amb. Alart Mogaskia, Niger Ambassador to Nigeria Represented by diplomatic staff, Mr. Salay Idriss.

Others are Ahmadu Hamman Dan Maje Adamawa, Hajiya Aminatou Abdoulkarim Woman Leader High Council of Nigerien in Abroad (Nigeria) and Hajiya Raheema Aliyu Aminu Executive Director of Loans and Services Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.

The awardees also included Musa Adamu Jarma Jimeta represented by Alh. Umar Yau; Amb. Emmanuel George JP., President / CEO Krystal Foundation; Arc. Richard John, CEO / MD Rychado Homes LTD represented by Mr Victor John; Dr. Ahmed Jatau Noma mni Represented by his Colleague and Chief Mourice Vunobolki Project Coordinator Northeast Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP) Represented by Paul Sini
