The FG through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has commended the Government and good people of Edo state for their readiness to host a hitch free and successful 20th National Sports Festival in Benin-city, come March 20th to April 2nd when the games village will be open and closed.
The Minister, Mr Sunday Dare while on the final inspection facilities tour represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Gabriel Tanimu Aduda, who also doubles as the chairman of the Main Organising Committee ( MOC ) along side the Deputy Governor of Edo state, H.E, Rt. Hon.Philip Shaibu, who is ably piloting the affairs of the Festival’s LOC, went hand in hand through all the facilities for use during the games to ensure its perfect condition and
to plug in any necessary holes before the commencement of the games.
Earlier, the Governor, H.E, Mr Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki who has not left any one in doubt of his promise of giving the festival the utmost attention it deserves, goes round the facilities to hasten contractors to tidy up work in these facilities, his visit to the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium is one of such visit, this has endeared him to his Edo people who now refers to him as “wake and See”.
The FG is confident that the assurance of Edo state to host a memorable 20th festival with facilities comparable with other Internationally renowned competition, there shall be no renege on that promise. It is also hoped that the over eleven thousand, five hundred ( 11, 500 ) athlete and officials shall be housed in a conducive Games Village equally meeting the internationally accepted standard which will greatly enhance the required Podium Performance of our athletes both home and abroad.
The facility inspection was rounded off in a round table meeting of the MOC and LOC which thereafter resulted in reports from the secretary of the MOC, Mr Peter Nelson, the Director Planning Monitoring and Information of the Ministry and that of LOC, Dr Emmanuel Igbinosa and further necessary actions are expected to be taken to truly ensure a laudable 20th NSF tagged ” Edo 2020 ” in Benin-city, the Edo state capital.
