FCT fire department to procure new equipment, as reps solicit support for victims of Amu Building Materials fire outbreak
The Federal Capital Territory Department of Fire Service is set to procure four new Water Tenders, 4 additional Water Tankers and 500 fire man suit to boost its efforts towards fire prevention.
The Director, FCT Department of Fire Service, Mr. Julius Opetunsin, stated this during a Fire Prevention Sensitization Campaign in Kuje, FCT. Opetunsin noted that the essentiality of fire prevention had prompted the FCT fire department, to engage in visiting communities, to educate rural residents on fire prevention measures.
Opetunsin further applauded the commitment of FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello, in ensuring that fire fighters were trained and fire stations within the FCT, were properly equipped.
Legal Director of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Mr. Isa Abdullahi, who represented the FCT Minister, restated the commitment of the Minister of the FCT, to keep Abuja safe from fire Disaster.
Similarly, the House of Representatives urged the national emergency management agency NEMA to provide relief materials for the victims of the fire disaster at Amu Building Materials Market in Lagos State.
The green chamber made the resolution while adopting a motion moved by Hon. Bolaji Ayinla at the plenary in Abuja. Mr. Ayinla noted that the recent fire incident raced down the biggest building market in L agos state, Amu market destroying goods worth billions of naira and lot of traders have lost their means of livelihood.
