UK on lockdown, as government impose £1,000 fine on defaulters

As the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus hit 1,421 in the United Kingdom, people with symptoms in the former European Union Nation who refuse to go into quarantine, could be detained or slammed with a fine of up to £1,000. The UK had enacted the Health Protection (Coronavirus) Regulations 2020, which states that those suspected of being infected could be held for up to 14 days in a secure hospital or other suitable location. The regulation further says anybody who tries to make an escape can be taken into custody before being returned to detention or isolation, the regulations

Schools in the UK are planning to shutdown and postpone exams, while the British Airways have announced series of flights cancellations.

Meanwhile, Singapore Foreign Minister, Lawrence Wong has accused Britain of abandoning efforts to contain coronavirus, which according to him, will lead to cases rising more rapidly. Responding, the UK Transport Secretary, Grant Shapp says the UK was taking ‘science led’ measures against the outbreak. In a report by dailymail, Shapp said: “We are working very hard to do things including, for example, providing the ability for home testing, but just in terms of scientific technology – getting those tests available, in other words inventing tests that can be used that quickly and in that way – they are not available at this time.”

“Having said that, the UK – I think I’m right in saying other than China and Italy – is carrying out more tests than any other country in the world, so we are ahead of the game in terms of testing,” he said,
