Two Arrested for Murder of Nasarawa Man whose Body dumped inside dry well
Nasarawa State Police Command, Lafia
___________
Two youths have been arrested for the disappearance and murder of Nasarawa man whose body was dumped inside an abandoned dry Well in his home in Nasarawa State, with investigators suspecting that his killers burnt his remains and concealed them beneath blocks in an attempt to cover up the crime.
The victim, identified as 50-year-old Jude Thaddeus, popularly known as Musa, was discovered at his residence in Aku Village, Base 5, Karu Local Government Area, following investigations into his disappearance.
Two suspects are now in police custody, while another person connected to the incident remains on the run. The case came to light after Thaddeus’ 46-year-old sister, Jennifer Alain, reported him missing on November 3, 2026.
Alain, who resides in Mpape, Abuja, told police officers at the Aso Pada Division that she had been unable to speak with her brother despite several attempts to contact him.
What raised further suspicion was that someone else kept picking up his telephone whenever she called.
Police investigations subsequently pointed to 23-year-old Yusuf Musa, a domestic animal attendant employed by the deceased about three months before the incident.
Investigators discovered that Yusuf had allegedly taken possession of his employer’s mobile phone after he disappeared on October 22. He reportedly used the phone to mislead people who called, telling them that the deceased’s supposed father had travelled to England.
The suspect also came under investigation over the suspicious disposal of the victim’s personal effects, livestock and other belongings.
During questioning, Yusuf reportedly admitted selling some heavy metals and industrial engines belonging to Thaddeus for N3.4 million.
His interrogation eventually led detectives to a more disturbing discovery. The suspect reportedly confessed to participating in the killing and directed officers to the dry well where the body had been hidden.
Following the disclosure, detectives, accompanied by environmental services personnel, proceeded to the property and recovered the decomposing remains.
Preliminary findings indicated that Thaddeus was murdered inside his residence before his body was taken to the well and set on fire.
Investigators also found that blocks had been placed over the well, apparently to conceal the remains and prevent anyone from discovering what had happened.
The recovered body was subsequently taken to the Medical Centre in Mararaba, where a doctor examined and certified the victim dead.
As investigations progressed, police identified and arrested another suspect, as well as two individuals suspected of receiving some of the victim’s stolen property.
The two suspects named by the police as being in custody are Yusuf Musa, 23, and Victor Zamani, 32.
However, a third suspect linked to the murder is still being pursued, with the command confirming that efforts are underway to locate and arrest the fleeing individual.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed the developments in a statement issued on Friday, November 6, 2026.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohamed, had directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for a thorough investigation and prosecution of anyone found responsible.
The police commissioner commended the officers involved in the investigation for uncovering the circumstances surrounding Thaddeus’ disappearance and locating his remains.
He also called on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The command maintained that investigations were continuing, particularly efforts to arrest the remaining suspect and establish the full circumstances of the killing.
