Tinubu Approves Major Upgrade For Teaching Hospitals Nationwide

President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate upgrade of crucial health infrastructure and equipment in teaching hospitals across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones.

Also, upgrades in critical healthcare service expansion projects across the fields of radiology, clinical pathology, medical and radiation oncology, and cardiac catheterization will be carried out in ten hospitals across all geo-political zones.

These projects, slated for completion within 12-18 months, are expected to enhance disease screening and diagnostics, lower mortality rates, and create significant employment opportunities while enhancing the capabilities of clinical personnel in advanced procedures, diagnostics, and treatment modalities.

This decision aligns closely with the administration’s overarching goal of transforming the health and social welfare sector to better serve all Nigerians, and states according to the announcement made public by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement released from Abuja on Friday.

Under the support of President Tinubu’s Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in conjunction with the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), will spearhead the comprehensive upgrade of cancer treatment facilities and other vital developments in six tertiary hospitals spread across several geopolitical zones.

Moreover, existing investments will undergo full renovation and expansion to ensure equitable access to high-quality healthcare services across the federation.

The identified teaching hospitals in various geo-political zones will witness the establishment of oncology and nuclear medicine centers, a pivotal step in President Tinubu’s commitment to making world-class cancer diagnosis and care accessible nationwide.

University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, University of Nigeria (Nsukka) Teaching Hospital, Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina, University of Jos Teaching Hospital and Lagos University Teaching Hospital

Additionally, ten critical healthcare service expansion projects encompassing radiology, clinical pathology, medical and radiation oncology, and cardiac catheterization will be implemented in hospitals across all geo-political zones.

North-West: Reference Hospital, Kaduna — (Radiology, clinical pathology, medical and radiation oncology), South-East: Medical Diagnostic Centre Complex, Enugu — (Radiology, clinical pathology, medical & radiation oncology). North-West: Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto — (Diagnostic and intervention radiology, clinical pathology, and cardiac catheterization)

Also, South-West: University College Hospital, Ibadan — (Diagnostic and intervention radiology, clinical pathology, and cardiac catheterization), South-South: University of Uyo Teaching Hospital — (Radiology and clinical pathology), North-East: Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi — (Radiology and clinical pathology)

In addition, South-South: Federal Medical Centre, Asaba — (Radiology and clinical pathology), North-Central: Harmony Advanced Diagnostic Centre Complex, Ilorin — (Radiology and clinical pathology), North-Central: Jos University Teaching Hospital — (Radiology and clinical pathology)

North-East: Federal Medical Centre, Nguru — (Radiology and clinical pathology)

This initiative is in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, reflecting a steadfast commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and quality for all Nigerians.
