The Minister of State for Transportation, Gbemisola Ruqayyah Saraki has said transport databank will resolve some of the problems in the Transportation industry because without information, government cannot plan adequately, making transport data bank imperative and a most have.

Saraki said this at a one day sensitization lecture organised by the Nigeria Institutte of Transport Technology, Zaria which was held yesterday 21st of March, 2022 at the Nicon Luxury Hotels Abuja with the Theme: Transport Data Bank-Staholders Engagementment and Sensitization.

Saraki said “Transport Data Bank will contribute to mass transportation and the companies operating mass transit. Through a transport data bank, companies will determine and plan their travel on a particular route, the number of passengers, and vehicles to deploy. We need to collate that all together for government to know issues of the quality of the roads which we could get as feedback from users of the roads”.

Ms. Saraki went further, “as much as we try to create a databank, we also need to train the right people to have the know-how in the technology that they can understand and assimilate the information”.

On Mass Transit

The Minister said “ministry of Transport is working towards bringing back the mass transit programme in conjunction with the private sector and leveraging on the existing system”.

Fuel Scarcity

The government has been transparent in explaining to Nigerians on the cause of the scarcity. As we can all recall, over the last seven years of this administration, fuel scarcity and cues was a thing of the past. We have moved way beyond that but unfortunately, we have an adultrated fuel being imported and like the NNPC has said, investigation is still ongoing and the problem will be resolved. We are pleading with Nigerians to be patient as government is doing its utmost best to normalize the situation, the Minister concluded.

On the sensitization lectures, the Director General of Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology, NITT Zaria Dr Bayero Salih-Farah, this is sensitization workshop on National Transport Data bank which is a project of the Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology Zaria. It aims at harnessing transport data across all modes of transportation in one single place. This will make it easy for information about the performance of transport system to be drive from one source. This is the essence of the forum today.

As you can see, there are participants from across sections and components of transport sector which comprises of air, maritime and land transport. Also, from the security forces, academia, the business community, operators and owners of transport system and ofcourse, everybody that has to do with Transport system. The transport data bank is not just one just off. It is an ongoing project, it will continue and it will be self sustaining at the end of the day. We are working towards having a public-private partnership to make sure that investment come into transport data bank so that it can sustain itself. We are focus in achieving our mandate.

We have clear mandates, we want to achieve those mandates; and contribute our quota to the development of the transport system and the overall economy of Nigeria.
