COVID-19: FCT bans all gathering, impose sit-at-home policy for level 12 officers

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Muhammed Bello has imposed a sit-at-home policy for all level 12 officers and below working in the capital territory until further notice.

Mallam Bello speaking in Abuja Today at a press briefing said that the directive is important considering the 7 cases confirmed in the FCT and a measure to contain its spread.

He added that all gathering such as Bar, clubs, gardens, night clubs, viewing and event centres and any other gathering are hereby suspended henceforth.

He however warned that where it noticed that citizens decides to flout the directives, punitive measures will be taken to enforce full force of the law on offenders because the FCT administration will not allow any person or groups to endanger the lives of others

Similarly, he added that in order to contain the spread of COVID 19, the FCTA will be working with the management of University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagalada to support them towards expanding the isolation centre to accommodate more patient if the need arises and also convert Zuba General Hospital to an isolation centre.

Meanwhile, he also urge everyone in leadership position to make sure that the directives are strictly adhered to buy their followers in the FCT

“All community leaders are encouraged to take on leadership, traditional leaders and religious leaders to ensure compliance.”

Citizen should also provide environmental support to be healthier and stronger to contain environmental degradation and pollution.

Market in the FCT will only be opened for the sale essential commodities such as foods and drugs with strict adherence for compliance

“All Non-governmental agencies, organization and individuals that desire to provide support in our fight against COVID 19 to liaise with the established coordinating response team in a well coordinated manner through the office of the minister of state of the FCT.”

“I want to call on residents to remain calm, continue to abide by expert advice, our public health officials and other agents of government regarding this calamity which by the grace of God if we work collectively with high sense of sincerity, it is going to be a thing of the past”.

Resident are enjoined to monitor news channels to be abreast with latest information on COViD 19 and FCT response so that they will be well informed
