FIFA Life Ban: CAS Fixes March 19 For Siasia’s Appeal

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has fixed March 19, 2020 to hear the appeal of former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia over the life ban handed to him by world football governing body, FIFA in August last year.

The date was fixed after CAS had set up a Panel of jurists that would hear the appeal filed by former Super Eagles’ Chief Coach a life ban on him following allegations of bribery and match fixing

Siasia, ex Nigerian international, was on August 16, 2019 banned for life by FIFA from all football related activities.

According to FIFA statement on August 16, 2019, “The Ethics Committee has found Mr Siasia, a former official of the Nigeria Football Federation, guilty of having accepted that he would receive bribes in relation to the manipulation of matches in violation of the Fifa Code of Ethics,” said a FIFA statement.

Siasia confirmed the date to Sporttinglife that the CAS hearing of the appeal will take place at the CAS Court Office, Avenue de Beaumont 2, 1012, Lausanne, Switzerland on March 19, 2020.

CAS wrote Siasia on December 27, 2019 inviting him and FIFA representatives and their witnesses to appear at the hearing which has been fixed for Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 9.30 hours Swiss time.

The Arbitral panel is called upon to resolve the dispute between Samson Siasia and FIFA.

Meanwhile, Siasia who secured the release of his mother recently from abductors has once again solicited for financial support from all and sundry, friends and eminent Nigerians to help him raise funds to be able to attend the CAS hearing in order to clear his name concerning the FIFA ban.
