Health Expert Wants NPP’s Nana B Stopped from Talking About COVID-19
Following the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana Dr. Kwame Sarpong Asiedu, who is a Pharmacist and Public Health Expert has called on the Ghanaian authorities to stop the National Youth Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Henry Nana Boakye commonly called Nana B from speaking on Covid-19 related issues.
According to Dr. Kwame, his comments on the spread of the virus in senior high schools is very unhelpful, calling for him to be stopped from commenting going forward.
Meanwhile, Nana B in a recent interview noted that students in Senior High Schools who have tested positive for COVID-19 brought the virus from home and didn’t get infected in schools. But his comment has since been branded by Dr. Sarpong Asiedu as lacking an understanding of public health.
“Can someone stop Nana B from talking on COVID-19? To say “SHS students with COVID-19 brought the virus from home” is ignorant and displays a lack of understanding of public health assortative and disassortative pathogen spread. We are in a phase of this pandemic where talk that ignores the science is extremely unhelpful,” he said.
Dr. Sarpong Asiedu is one of the key figures leading discussions about Ghana’s COVID-19 fight, regularly providing good analyses and suggestions on how to help combat the deadly virus.
The Accra Girls SHS has recorded some 55 cases out of several hundreds of samples taken. There have been calls by some Ghanaians for the schools to be closed given the spread. Ghana currently has recorded 25,252 cases with 21,397 while the active case count stands at 3,716. Meanwhile, 139 persons have died after contracting the virus.
