Austrian Government to turn Adolf Hitler’s house to Police station

The Austrian Government has unveiled plans to “neutralise” and turn house where Adolf Hitler was born, into a police station. The government bought the property under a compulsory purchase order in 2016 and plans to turn it into a police station in November. Neo-Nazis had always traveled to the site, and the Austrian Government wants to ensure it does not attract others in the future. According to reports, renovation work is expected to cost about €5m ($5.6m; £4.5m) and will be completed by 2023.
“A new chapter will be opened for the future from the birth house of a dictator and mass murderer,” Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer told reporters on Tuesday.
Adolf Hitler was a German politician and leader of the Nazi Party. Hitler was born in Austria—then part of Austria-Hungary—and was raised near Linz. He moved to Germany in 1913 and was decorated during his service in the German Army in World War I. In 1919, he joined the German Workers’ Party (DAP), and was appointed leader of the NSDAP in 1921. He rose to power as the chancellor of Germany in 1933 and then as Führer in 1934. During his dictatorship from 1933 to 1945, he initiated World War II in Europe by invading Poland on 1 September 1939.
