All Set for 12th Edition of Nigerian Police Games in Awka, Anambra State

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr. Sunday Dare has expressed optimism that the 12th edition of the Nigerian Police Games competition will produce talents for the nation as it had done in the past while providing an opportunity for facilities’ development.

The Minister said this when he received
the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the games AIG Ibrahim Alkali, who paid a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja.

The Minister said,”The Police Games had produced great talents for Nigeria like Sunny Isekwena, Julius Aghahowa, Chioma Ajunwa, Samuel Peters among others.

“We hope this event will throw up new talents that can represent the country at the Olympics and make us proud. I’m happy it is coming before the National Sports Festival in Benin. So scouts will be sent there to fish out talents. The games will also be an opportunity to develop sports facilities.”

In his remarks, AIG Alkali Mohammed who is also the Force Secretary disclosed that the Nigerian Police Games which is billed to take place from the 29th of February to the 7th of March, 2020, will have a record number of 3,000 Police men and women taking part in the competition and that all is set for a hitch free competition.

“We are here to assure the Honourable Minister that everything is set for the Nigerian Police Games in Anambra State. We have enjoyed the tremendous support of the Anambra State Governor Chief Willy Obiano. All is set for a great event,” he disclosed.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square on Saturday, with 12 zones competing in the 10 day event in track and field, football,squash, table tennis, boxing, wrestling, shooting, lawn tennis, basketball among others.

The curtains will be drawn on the event on the 7th of March at the renovated Rojenny Sports Complex, Oba,near the commercial town of Onitsha.
