One of the worst storms in decades is set to batter London in less than 24 hours, bringing significant disruption and ‘extremely strong’ winds.

The Met Office issued a rare red alert for south-west England and south Wales, leaving people in the capital to anxiously await what weather Storm Eunice will bring.

An amber warning for wind is in place for London from 5am until 9pm tomorrow.

It covers all of the capital and much of England, with coastal areas expected to experience the strongest winds.

Forecasters have only seen a ‘handful’ of storms in the last 30 years with such high expected wind speeds.

The heightened fears over Eunice triggered an emergency Cobra meeting of ministers to discuss how they should respond.
