Russian journalist accused of treason

The Russian Federal Security Service has completed its investigation into the high treason criminal case launched against journalist Ivan Safronov.

Mr. Safronv is a former military reporter and an adviser to the head of the Russian State Space Corporation Roscosmos, according to Sputnik on Monday.

“The investigation of the criminal case against Safronov has been completed,” a source in law enforcement agencies told the media organization.

Mr. Safronov’s legal defense team refused to confirm or deny this information, citing a nondisclosure agreement, and lawyer Dmitry Talantov admitted that the defense team was studying case materials.

Mr. Safronov was detained on July 7, 2020, and accused of sharing classified data on Russian arms export with foreign intelligence.
