Police recover slain cops’ rifles, arrest 14 suspected kidnappers in Jigawa

Dutse– The Jigawa State Police Command, on Thursday, announced the rescue of a 20-year-old lady, Hadiza Chado, from a kidnappers’ den and arrested 14 suspects report Punch.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aliyu Tafida, who made the disclosure to journalists in Dutse, said the victim was kidnapped on January 8, 2022, at Marma village in the Kirikasamma Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the victim was rescued unhurt on Wednesday after the police successfully raided the suspected kidnappers’ hideout in the Suletankarkar Local Government Area of the state.

The CP also disclosed that the police raided three criminal hideouts at Dajin Maizuwo, Dan Gwanki and Yandamo villages during the operation.

Tafida stated, “The 14 suspects comprise 10 males and four females. Two of them suffered varying degrees of injury during the exchange of gunfire.

“Among weapons recovered from the robbers were three AK-47 rifles, nine magazines and 308 pieces of 7.6mm live ammunition, one burnt general-purpose machine gun, and two empty shells.

“We also recovered one Toyota Hummer bus, nine motorcycles, one cutlass, six mobile phones, 12 SIM cards and five memory cards.”

The CP added that N2.7m was also recovered during the operation, adding two of the recovered rifles were earlier carted away from police officers killed while responding to a distress call on January 23, at Kwalam village in the Taura Local Government Area.

Tafida added that one of the recovered motorcycles belonged to one Abdul Sajo, a local security outfit commander, who was killed on January 25, 2022.

While disclosing that the suspects would be charged as soon as investigations were completed, he reiterated the commitment of the police to fighting crime and protecting lives and properties in the state.
