UN urge for Peace, condemns Capitol invasion
President of the United Nations General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir, has condemned Wednesday’s US Capitol invasion.
According to Bozkir, peace and respect for democratic processes will prevail at this critical time in America.
“As President of the UN General Assembly, I’m saddened and concerned by today’s developments at the Capitol in Washington DC. The US is one of the world’s major democracies. I believe that peace and respect for democratic processes will prevail in our host country at this critical time,” Bozkir tweeted.
US President-elect Joe Biden has also called on incumbent President Donald Trump to defend America’s democracy and end the chaos in Capitol.
Biden said America is so much better than what happened today in Capitol.
One person was shot and wounded Wednesday inside Capitol amid chaotic scenes in Washington as supporters of Trump stormed the building in anger over his election defeat.
“One shooting victim was transported from the Capitol,” a person attached to an emergency response unit told AFP, adding that there were “other injuries” in the chaotic protests and that the situation remained fluid.
The Washington Post reported that police said the victim was a white female shot in the shoulder, and CNN said she was in critical condition at a local hospital.
