The Nigeria Women Premier League over the years has produced some of the biggest women Footballer’s in Africa and beyond.
The competitive nature of the NWPL has attracted some football stars who earn high wages compared to their other African counterparts.
The NWFL no doubt has it’s own fair share of highly paid players and in this piece, we shall be having a rundown of the top five highest paid players in the Nigeria Women Premier League.
5. Esther Udegbe (Bayelsa Queens) 145,000 Naira per month
She may not be the most highly rated defender in the Nigeria Women Premier League, but Esther Udegbe has all the good qualities of a good central defender and is well respected at the Samson Siasia Stadium.
Udegbe earns a massive wage at Bayelsa Queens and has done that in the last four seasons. The experienced defender won her first NWFL title with the ‘ Restoration Ladies’ in 2018 and showed a high level of emotion when interviewed on how she felt afterwards.
4. Aiyeniberun Opeyemi (Sunshine Queens) 150,000 Naira Per Month
Opeyemi Aiyeniberun’s recent contract renewal at Sunshine Queens makes her one of the highest paid players in the NWPL.
The former Osun Babes player has been a key figure at the Ondo State Sports Complex since joining the ‘Owena Mermaids’ about five seasons ago.
Its no surprise that she is earning this much as she is one of the most experienced players presently at the club.
3. Joy Jerry (Bayelsa Queens) 150,000 Naira per month
The youngest captain in the history of the NWFL to hold aloft the NWFL trophy. Jerry earns N145,000 per month and always performs at an optimal level whenever she is on the pitch.
Jerry is a player who has a very high work rate on the pitch and also have a high level of charisma, reason she was made captain at a very young age.
The Flamingoes forward will be hoping to get a rise in pay when she extends her contract with the ‘Restoration Girls’ for the 2019/2020 NWPL season.
2. Ihuoma Goodness (Sunshine Queens) 155,000 Naira per month
Sunshine Queens Captain Ihuoma Goodness is a major figure in Akure and has clearly shown how important she is to the ‘Wemimo Mathew’ tutored side.
The former Rivers Angels midfielder is the highest earner at the 2015 AITEO Cup Champions and has established herself as one of the best midfielder in the league.
Her leadership qualities on and off the pitch is so inspiring and recently told the media that she wants to win the league with the ‘Owena Mermaids” in 2020.
