Abdulsalam to lead Ganduje-Sanusi reconciliation move

The former head of state General Abdulsalam Abubakar is leading a new reconciliation committee that is looking to end the rift between Kano State governor Umar Ganduje and the Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The committee also has the chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum Kayode Fayemi, Katsina State governor Aminu Bello Masari and former Nigerian of United Nations, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari has members.

Others on the committee are Adamu Fika, Wazirin Fika, Gen Muhammadu Inuwa Wushishi, Abdullahı Ibrahim, Dalhatu Sarki Talida, Dr Umaru Mutaliab, Sheikh Sharif Ibrahim Saleh and Adamu Fika.

Fika said the new committee has the backing of the Nigerian government and that its members have made “initial contact with the two parties concerned.

“The new Committee is working with the full understanding and cooperation of the Federal Government,” Fika said in a statement.

“Initial contact has been made with His Excellency the Governor of Kano, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as well as with His Highness the Emir of Kano Sarki Muhammadu Sanusi lI.

“They have each agreed to hold back from taking any further actions until the Committee has fully undertaken and finalised this exercise of reconciliation and resolution.

“Similarly, they each have undertaken to call on all their supporters and sympathisers including social media operators, to refrain from making statements, declarations, songs, articles, blogs and all action inimical to the spirit and process of good order, reconciliation, and good governance. We can on everyone to hearken to this call”. The statement read.

Several attempts by prominent Nigerians and elders in the North, one led by Sultan of Sokoto Sa’ad Abubakar II, failed to quench the raging feud between the two leaders.
