Light-Up Kogi East project nears completion- Onogwu
The Kogi State Government initiative aimed at providing Electricity in Kogi East region of the State, where over 80% of the populace have not had electricity for decades, is nearing completion. Kogi East which is also referred to as Igala Land is made up of Ankpa, Bassa, Dekina, Idah, and Igalamela-Odolu Local Government areas. Others Local Government areas are; Ibaji, Olamaboro, Ofu and Omala.
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kogi State, Onogwu Muhammed, the State Governor, Yahaya Bello, initiated the ‘Light up Kogi East’ with the inauguration of a 15-man committee on July 16, 2019. According to Onogwu, the committee is chaired by the Deputy Governor, Edward Onoja. Onogwu further noted that Two billion Naira was allocated for the project and captured in the State’s 2019 budget, under rural electrification projects.
“The N2b Operation Light-Up Kogi East project encompasses the upgrading of Itobe Bridge Cable by crossing 150mm x 1 Core Cable to 300mm x Core cable from Ajaokuta across the River Niger to the region. The 300mm cable has the capacity for 45 MW load at maximum while the entire load of Kogi East currently stands at 25MW,” Onogwu Muhammed said.
