The life they say can sometimes be unfair, but for Me, life was so fair and kind to us for giving us a Leader called Senator Barau Jibril. Senator Barau Jibril is Leader known to be kind-hearted and friendly, he welcomes and gives audience to all knowing that he is a Senator from Kano State but not restricted to helping people from other parts of Nigeria, because he refused to allow tribal differences or religion to create a vacuum between him and people from other tribes and religions.

I just want to seize this opportunity to write a little about this Senator called Barau Jibril because he is simply a Leader that should be commended in all aspects looking at how generous he is with his time and leadership role towards making life beautiful for Nigerians.

Senator Barau Jibril, as known by every Nigerian, is not just a Leader representing his constituency in the Senate, but he is also, an activist, a humanitarian and a goodwill Leader who has given way beyond imagination all forms of support to the poor and the needy and has in all this while work towards ensuring uniting all Nigerians in every way to further ensure unity and stability for us as we grow as a nation.

But before I go further let’s look read briefly about the person of Senator Barau I Jibrin is a Nigerian politician and member of the 9th National Assembly, from Kano State, Nigeria.

He represents Kano North Senatorial District. Senator Barau is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations, and former Chairman of Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND in the 8th Senate. 

Early life and education

Senator Barau I Jibrin, was born in 1959, and he is a native of Kabo Township, Kabo Local Government Area, Kano State.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting, a master’s certificate in Financial Management and Pricing, a master’s certificate in Management, and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA). He also holds a certificate in Financial Management for business decisions from the prestigious Cornell University, United States.

After his initial higher studies, the Senator worked briefly in the accounting department of the Kano State Foundation, before he resigned in 1992 to begin his private flourishing business with vast interests in the manufacturing, insurance and the construction sectors of the Nigerian economy. His success in the private sector prepared him adequately to begin a process of championing the cause of his people through the instrumentality of politics.

Political life

Barau’s passion for his people motivated him to contest election in 1999 to the House of Representatives to represent Tarauni Federal Constituency of Kano State which he won. While in the House of Representatives, he served as the Chairman, House Committee on Appropriations. He was also a member of the House of Representative’s Committee on Power during that period.

After his tour of duty in the House of Representatives, he promptly went back to his private business, but not without sustaining his interest in the political engineering of his native Kano State.

In later years, he served as the Chairman of the Kano State Investment and Properties Ltd; a Company wholly owned by the Kano State Government.

He was a one-time Commissioner of Science and Technology in Kano State. He was appointed in 2001 to serve as a member of a committee set up by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to review Nigeria’s Budgetary process. In 2009, he was appointed by the Kano State Government as a member of the Kano State Business Incentive Committee; a position in which he acquainted himself credibly.

On his return to the electoral contest in 2015, Senator Barau contested and won election to the Senate of Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing Kano North Senatorial District under the platform of All Progressive Congress. He was appointed the same year as the Vice-Chairman Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) of the Senate, and subsequently became the Chairman of the same Committee.

In the later part of 2016, he was reassigned to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND as the Chairman of the Committee.

Additionally, to this Senate Portfolio, he is a member of the Committee on Niger Delta, Industries, Land Transportation, and Appropriations.

He is also the Secretary of Northern Senators Forum.

Hmmm, what an achievement, but I must be honest to tell You that, with all his achievements Senator Barau Jibril has refused to let it get into his head neither has he given up on the people of this great country Nigeria. Senator Barau Jibril has in time past made a great impact, but refused to stop there because he understands what consistency in doing good to the people means.

During the lockdown period, Senator Barau Jibril gave palliatives in funds and food worth over 20million naira to the people which includes those in his State, and out numerous numbers of people he rendered supports to whom are not from his state.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Sen. Barau Jibrin, donated the sum of four million Naira to the Kano State Government. Senator Jibrin said the cash donation is to complement the State Government’s effort in fighting COVID-19.

He added that his kind gesture is geared towards cushioning the hardship Kano residents are facing as a result of the lockdown and also to help the government fight the pandemic.

 Jibrin, who represents Kano North Senatorial District, praised Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for taking proactive measures towards containing the epidemic in the State.

And assured that he will ensure his constituents adhere strictly to the instructions issued by the State government, stressing that all hands must be on deck to prevent Kano from being hit by coronavirus.

Many Kano indigenes have expressed deep gratitude to Sen. Jibrin over the kind donation. They appreciated his contributions towards the development of Kano, and Nigeria, at large.

In the National Assembly, the Senate Committee Chairman on Appropriation has sponsored several pro-masses bills and motions of national importance.

Senator Barau Jibril knows that Leadership is not about just Your people or from the region You came from, but rather understands the language that binds all together as one which is love that knows no boundary.

So, when next You, hear about Senator Barau Jibril, You should have it in Your heart that he is a true Leader.
