Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic and the directives by the Presidential taskforce banning Public gatherings, the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Adams Oshimole, on Sunday held a campaign rally in Edo State. The event which was streamed live once Facebook, has drawn criticism from social media users who noted that while the Federal Government is yet to order the resumption of schools, the suspended former National Chairman of the APC and a former Labour Leader, was going around, holding rallies and breaching precautionary measure laid down by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control NCDC. The pandemic which was first confirmed in Nigeria in February, has claimed the lives of over 700 Nigerians, with more than 36,000 others testing positive to the virus.

While some supported the rally, others called for Oshomole’s arrest, for violating Covid-19 precautionary rules. One Nath Otasowie said: “This man needs to be arrested for violating Covid-19 guidelines.” A comment coming from one Peter Nwajei said: “I am ashamed of Nigerian Politicians. What a pity. That is why Nigeria will never be a good country”.

At the rally, Adams Oshomole said the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, was only interested in the Government House. Oshomole said: “Because Obaseki lost the AP Ticket, he joined our opponents, his only mission is the Government House. Nothing more. I lost the Chairmanship but here I still remain a Core Progressive. That’s the training we have, we don’t go to Church to look for miracles, we go to worship God, if miracles come, glory be to God, if not, we will keep worshipping God, we won’t decamp to join the devil. “
