Kano to reviews, cuts 2020 budget by 30%

Kano state Government is perfecting plans and processes to review the 2020 budget with 30 percent cut, to face the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Kano state Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, said that the fiscal document, after ensuring workable cuts, would be taken to the Kano State House of Assembly for further legislation and passage.

Ganduje, who made the revelation during a media parley at the Africa House, Government House, Kano, assuring that, with the new budget size, the state would do everything possible to see that, the security of the state, health and education, among other critical sectors, were not compromised.

According to him, “We are reviewing our budget with 30 percent cut, just to match with the challenge posed by this COVID-19 pandemic as is the case world over. The reviewed document will soon be taken to the State House of Assembly”

The Governor also disclosed that the ongoing projects would be looked at, with the intention of assessing how they can match with the possible cut in the fiscal document size.

He asserted that he would do everything possible to ensure the service to humanity is still and will continue to be the priority of his administration.

Ganduje stated that all the processes of reviewing the document are open and transparent, adding that, “We are enjoying more prudence in the process, so that we continue to have a prudent-laden and transparency-compliant fiscal document just as when we started, ab initio.”
