Family did not know of ‘dangerous’ rapist release

Wendell Baker, a dangerous rapist who was sentenced to life in prison for attacking a 66yrs old Hazel Backwell and locking her up in a cupboard in 2013 was cleared for release without informing or notifying the family of Hazel Backwell the deceased.

The release of Baker was announced last month by the Parole Board who said the rapist is “suitable for release” after a hearing which took place in April.

Mrs. Backwell’s son said he got to know of Baker’s release announcement from a newspaper reporter. Though the Ministry of Justice apologized to Mr Backwell, the son of Hazel Backwell, for failing to contact him and asked the parole board to reconsider the decision to free Wendell claiming it was irrational and not in line with the evidence.
