1.8 Million Nigerians Expected To Vote In Kogi Gov Election – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday said that arrangements for Saturday’s governorship election in Kogi State had been concluded.

According to the electoral body, a total of 1,833,160 persons collected permanent voter cards (PVCs) and are expected to vote.

A message delivered by the Kogi Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Hale Longpet on behalf of the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu on the November 11 off-cycle governorship elections to be held in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa states, disclosed that all sensitive and non-sensitive materials for the polls had been delivered.

He said, “The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) has been configured for deployment to polling units as the only means of voter verification and finger/facial biometric authentication of voters.

“Polling unit results will be uploaded to INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal.

“All election duty officials have been trained. Arrangements have been made for land and maritime transportation to enable us to commence voting as scheduled.

“For the off-cycle elections, the commission is deploying two national commissioners, nine resident electoral commissioners and administrative secretaries as well as additional staff from different states to each of the three states to support the process. They will be deployed across the senatorial zones in the states.”

The commission promised to “continue to ensure free, fair, and credible elections”.

“We have received assurances from security agencies that the environment will be secured for electoral activities and all participants: voters, electoral officials, accredited observers, the media and polling/collation agents.

“Political parties and candidates have signed peace accord under the auspices of the National Peace Committee. Let us maintain the peace and play our roles conscientiously,” he added.
