Coronavirus closure: Rivers Gov’t threatens private schools

The Rivers State Government has threatened that withdraw the operational license of any private school that fails to comply with the directive on the closure of schools on Monday.

The State Commissioner for Education, Professor Kaniye Ebeku repeated the threat while briefing journalists in Port Harcourt.

Professor Ebeku said the directive followed widespread cases of coronavirus across the country.

PDP Congress: Akawor emerges state party chairman in Rivers

Ambassador Desmond Akawor on Saturday emerged as the new Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Rivers state.

Ambassador Akawor was elected by PDP Delegates during the PDP State Elective Congress at the Obi Wali Cultural Centre in Port Harcourt.

In his acceptance speech, the new Rivers State PDP Chairman, said, members of the new State Working Committee would serve the party and lead it to greater achievements.

Akawor assured the party of the loyalty and commitment of the new executive committee

In a speech, Governor Nyesom Wike charged the newly-elected Chairman to unite the party by working with all members of the party in the state.

Meanwhile, some party members and delegates who spoke to journalists during the PDP State Congress expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the ward, local and state Congresses.
