Rivers plans public water scheme for 2 LGAs
The Rivers State Government says plans are underway to ensure running water in residences and offices in Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor through a public water system.
The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Doctor TAMUNOSISI GOGO JAJA, disclosed this to newsmen in Port Harcourt in a media briefing to commemorate the World Water Day.
GOGO JAJA said the project would cost two hundred million dollars, stressing that the State Government had completed the Okrika Island water project and other water projects in some local government areas.
The commissioner also said every water company in the State would be registered free of charge, in a bid to assist the ministry plan, identify and regulate water companies.
He also alleged most sachet water popularly called pure water were not safe, as most of them go to Aba to print packets with customized numbers of the National Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC.
