The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has said the siege laid on the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Monday will be replicated in other parts of the country soon.

The Southwest Coordinator of the body, Comrade Stephen Tegbe speaking to the press, said after blocking major highways in some parts of the country last week, the next step would be to shut down the nation’s airspace.

“Yes, our colleagues are carrying out the blockade in Lagos. Student leaders from across the country are in Abuja now for a crucial meeting later today. We are satisfied with the action of our colleagues in Lagos and I can assure you that the Lagos incident is not going to be final unless our demands are met.

“Further actions and steps will definitely be taken after we have assessed today’s event and move to the next stage it is criminal to continue to waste the precious time of the nation’s youths. For how long are we going to be at home doing nothing? Our leaders are pretending as if all is well because their children and wards are not affected.

The students under the aegis of NANs blocked Murtala Muhammed international Airport road, Lagos to protest. Movement was totally restricted causing gridlock along the Ikeja and other routes leading to both the Local and International airports.

The students later moved to the domestic airport, causing a standstill situation along the airport road and Mobolaji Bank Anthony road leading to the local airport.

Both the domestic terminal one also known as the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) and the terminal two operated by Bi-Courtney Aviation Service Limited (BASL) of the Airport and the MMA were shut down by the students preventing passengers from accessing the airport.

At the GAT, the protesting students were joined briefly by a former Students Union Government President of the University of Lagos and Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore.

He joined in solidarity with the students and decried the inability of the Federal Government and ASUU to resolve the lingering strike.
