A mammoth crowd have turned up in Umuahia for the burial of Eze Isreal Kanu and his wife, Ugoeze Sally; parents of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafrans. In a video shared on Twitter, huge crowd accompanied the ambulance conveying the bodies to the funeral service.

Meawhile, the Abia state Government says it has nothing against the burial of Eze Israel Kanu, the father of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement by the Abia State Commissioner of Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, the Government condoled with the family of the deceased.
Chief John Okiy Kalusaid: “The man contributed to the development of Abia state immensely. Right from the creation date till now, we are proud of his contributions. Having said that, we recognize that his burial is largely traditional event, we will expect peaceful burial of Eze Kanu. That burial is not being organized by groups. That burial is being organized by the traditional council of Isiama Afaraukwu Ibeku, and indeed Afara kingdom.
“They are coming together to give our Eze a befitting burial. Everyone must conduct himself peacefully, and in the expected traditional quote. And We want to reassure the good people of Abia state, that nobody has any cause to be afraid. Nothing will happen. It will be a peaceful burial. All those fear mongers should go home and sit down. Nobody should be afraid of honoring our Eze.

“And I want to point out publicly that the governor of Abia state, His Excellency, Dr.Okezie Ikpeazu, officially condoles the Kanu family. He received official notification from Nnamdi Kanu on the death of his father, and he responded with an official condolence letter, and when he had representation from the Afaraukwu Ibeku Development Union regarding the road drains leading to the house of our Eze. The governor graciously awarded the contract for that road to be fixed. Last night, I was there and I have seen that they have gone quite far.
“The State government has nothing against the burial of Eze I.O Kanu. We will take necessary measures to ensure the burial is conducted peacefully. But we want to say to troublemakers, this is not the time to fly the flag of any group or organization you belong to. The only recognized groups, will be traditional groups”.
