The governor, in a Christmas message signed by his spokesman, Malam Isa Gusau, described Christians in Borno as hard-working, dedicated, peace-loving and easy-going fellow citizens.

“I joyfully felicitate with our dear Christian brothers and sisters in Borno State who have, over the years, proved to be hard-working, dedicated, peace-loving and easy-going fellow citizens.

“I urge the sustenance of these unique attributes and call on all citizens to remain united, especially with the challenges we have faced together in over 12 years.”

The governor said: “Our armed forces from all security establishments deserve our respect, love, trust and prayers.

“They even deserve our empathy when we reflect and consider the fact that as we civilians think about how to celebrate the season, soldiers in particular and other security personnel, as well as our volunteers, are holding forth in front lines to keep off insurgents who never mean well, and who always want to ruin every joyous moment.

“I urge fellow citizens to remain prayerful for the victories of our troops, and an end to the insurgency.”

Zulum added: “I must commend the entire people of Borno State for showing courage that is indomitable.

“Only indomitable people could have resisted the kind of challenge Borno has faced and is still facing even though, to a comparatively lesser extent.

“I very strongly admire the courage in our people and the relentless determination to move on.

“I salute the good people of Borno State as I once again felicitate with our Christian brothers and sisters at Christmas.

“I am sure that, insha’Allah, our armed forces will remain focused to ensure a peaceful celebration and a peaceful living afterwards.”

“We should pray hard with the hope that coming in any future celebration, troops should be able to celebrate with their families.

He said that as Nigerians celebrate the 2021 Christmas, the yearly commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the love God has for mankind should be everyone watchword.

The governor noted that the period creates an opportunity for all Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, political or religious affiliation to come together and work consciously to dislodge the terrorist forces destabilising the country.
He regretted the pain the activities of the terror groups wrecked on the political, economic and social life of Nigerians which he said had dragged the country to its knees.
“As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, let us celebrate as one big Nigerian family with love and care for one another.

“Let us avoid divisive tendencies where religion, ethnicity and political differences have eaten deep into our lives. This is not the Nigeria we looked forward to.
“This season presents to us, a unique time to share love genuinely, first to our immediate families and also to the larger Nigerian family where we speak and act for the unity of country irrespective of our political or religious differences.

“We must not allow this criminality by terrorists and their sponsors to continue and destroy our nation. Let’s come together to end it now for the benefit of our children and future generations,” Ortom said.
