Coronavirus: Italy declares State of emergency
The Italian Government on Friday declared a state of emergency in a bid to contain the Coronavirus outbreak and prevent it from spreading in their country. The state of emergency was declared after two Chinese tourists who visited Italy for holidays, had tested positive for the virus.
According to Government officials,b the couple was being treated in isolation in Rome’s Spallanzani infectious diseases institute.
Italy has also stopped all flights to, and from China.
Italian Police had sealed off the room where the couple had been staying at a hotel, while a 42-year old Romanian worker at the hotel has also tested positive to the Coronavirus.
So far, the Coronavirus has spread to 18 countries, with over 9,000 cases recorded and over 200 deaths.
