SUICIDE: Artisan Commit Suicide After Drinking Insecticide
- Co-tenants suspect indebtedness
An Osogbo-based artisan, identified simply as Samuel, has reportedly committed suicide by taking insecticide reports Punch.
Sources in Isale Aro said Samuel took the poisonous substance on Sunday and was already struggling before a co tenant heard his voice and raised the alarm.
It was further learnt that the deceased, who was rushed to a private hospital in the area, was responding to treatment till late evening on Sunday when his condition worsened.
A co-tenant with the deceased, who spoke on condition of anonymity told The PUNCH on Monday said Samuel had confided in him that he was in huge debt.
He said, “I saw him early on Sunday and we had a brief conversation. He did not tell us he would be traveling, but for few weeks, he didn’t come home.
“When I asked why he was away for so long, Samuel told me he was in indebted. He said owed many people. Not long after our conversation, I heard him grunting in his room and I raised the alarm.
“We called his younger brother living around Jaleoyemi area and when that one arrived, the door to his room was forced open, we saw the container of insecticide that he took beside him.
“We rushed him to a hospital nearby and his brother told us last night that Samuel was responding to treatment. But this morning, the man came around and told us thathe died before daybreak. He was a bricklayer from South-East.”
The spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, said the matter had not been reported to the police.
