eNaira app removed from google play store.
The recently launched eNaira Wallet application has been removed from Google Play Store barely 36 hours after it was launched by the Central Bank of Nigeria, The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, in a conference at the beginning of the month, promised that the country would start digital Naira currency. Emefiele said the eNaira would operate as a wallet through which customers could hold existing funds in their bank accounts, and that this would accelerate financial inclusion and enable cheaper and faster remittance inflows. The digital currency has two applications, which are eNaira speed wallet and eNaira merchant wallet. On Monday, the two apps were rolled out on the Google play store and the Apple store. However, negative reactions have trailed the launch of the app as many users complained of several issues, ranging from the inability to link their Bank Verification number, to getting a verification email. The CBN replied numerous reviews on the app, suggesting solutions to users’ issues, or asking them to send an email to its helpdesk to address the problems. The app disappeared from the app store for Android users late on Wednesday. The eNaira Speed Wallet app is still available on the Apple Store where 343 reviewers have given it an average of 2.8/5. To this end, the bank warned members of the public to be wary of some fraudulent individuals using a twitter handle, @enaira_cbdc purported to belong to the bank to spread false information. Although the eNaira speed wallet had disappeared from the Google Play Store, the eNaira merchant wallet, which is designed for businesses, was still running as of 9pm on Wednesday and had over 10,000 downloads. On Wednesday, barely about 48 hours after the launch, the eNaira wallet was removed from the Google Play Store. The spokesperson for the CBN, Mr. Osita Nwanisobi, said the development was to enable the app to be upgraded. “There is an upgrade going at the moment by Google; try in the next few hours,” Nwanisobi told correspondents on Wednesday when asked to explain why the app could not be found on the play store.
