LEKKI DEEP Seaport to be Commissioned Dec. 2022 – FG
The Federal Government has disclosed that with the commissioning of the Lekki Deep Seaport in December, 2022, the economic landscape of the country will receive a boost.
The Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, made this known when a delegation from African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja yesterday.
” We will finish the Deep Seaport; it will be completed in December. it started in this government and must finish in this government. We will invite the President to commission it next year, Decembe,r” he said.
While enumerating the.laudable achievements of the Federal Government, Amaaechi, said one of them is the Deep Blue Project; a maritime seurity architecture that is reducing the incidence of piracy and other maritime crimes in Nigerian maritime space and the Gulf of Guinea.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer, African Union Development Agency, (AUDA), Princess Gloria Akobundu, who led the delegation, said: ” the mechanism is Africa’s unique and innovative approach to governance with the objective of improving governance dynamics at local, national and vontinental levels, with the vision to fully actualize transformative leadership and practice for the Africa we want”.
She further informed that Nigeria was among the first countries that acceded to APRM in 2003 and was peer reviewed in 2008, adding that the second PPRM was ongoing.
The Chief Executive Officer, also assured the Minister of their commitment towards effective partnership in promoting good governance for accelerated sustainable development.
Also speaking, the Chairman, National Governing Council of National Institute of Security Studies, Sen. Abba Ali who was represented by the Deputy Chairman, Dr. Louis Mandama said, the APRM review process is based on a country’s performance. “The overall process seeks to entrench good governance practices in participating states by deepening the principles of democracy, transparency, accountability, Intergrity, respect for human rights and promotion of rule of law, in order to create an enabling environment for sustainable development” .
He said the need for the sectoral consultation for the validation of the country self – Assessment Report ( CSAR) will not be over emphasised as it is part of the African Union (AU) guidelines for effective Review process. “This further affirms the government commitment in critical and valuable sector as Transportation segment in the country which will form the basis of the new National programme of Action, (NPoA)”.
In attendance was the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
