Drug Abuse: The Fight Continues, ANT launched D.A.S.E Programme

Drug abuse is one of the reasons for many mental cases around the world and it is expanding its wings to secondary schools, which has made it more than dangerous.

On the 1st of October 2021, The launch of drug abuse in a school environment (D.A.S.E) a sensitisation Program for secondary schools in Nigeria was held at Funtaj International school, Gudu district, Abuja and this is a step that will definitely make a huge change. The launch of D.A.S.E is very timely.

The organiser of the event, A new Thing International foundation which was founded by Kenneth Anetor in collaboration with House of representative committee on youth development and drug law enforcement agency, embarked on this for the national association of proprietors of private secondary schools.

The aim of the Programme is to enlighten and empower secondary schools with knowledge and materials to curtail the consumption of hard drugs and other illicit substances in secondary schools across Nigeria.

In attendance were;Proprietors of Private secondary schools and some important people in the society;
Ngozi Anthonia Madubuike , Assistant commander general of Narcotics, Director, drug demand reduction directorate, Hon. Yemi Adaramodu , chairman house committee on Youth development, Senator Dino malaye

In response to the question by one of our reporters on the increase in Drug Abuse amongst Students and youth
The VC of Funtaj International school stated that Ignorance is the problem and many schools don’t see the need to educate the children on the importance of avoiding drugs completely, and continuous sensitisation is expedient both from home and the school.

The Assistant commander general of Narcotics, explaining reasons why people go into drugs also said that most people use drugs not because they want to use but because there are circumstances beyond their control

Dino Malaye who gave a goodwill message stated that, drug abuse cannot be separated from crime be it boko haram, kidnappers…”They don’t operate just with clear eyes…all of them are under the influence of drugs, that is why their conscience are dead” he stated

He also blamed the use of drugs on three different strata of the society
The family, the Government and the people because we have lost the unity of purpose

The founder .of A New Thing International foundation, Pastor Kenneth in an interview stated that the foundation will be going to different states to inculcate the Programme, after dealing with government and private schools in Abuja
