President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime cannot win the war against bandits, unknown gunmen, and terrorists without providing “adequate logistics” to the armed forces, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen Farouk Yahaya, declares.

I assure you that the necessary logistics for effective operations would be made available without delay,” the army chief told 4 Brigade in Benin. ”No warfare can be effectively fought without adequate logistics and tactful planning.”

Mr. Yahaya, however, urged the troops to remain focused and proactive in tackling the current security challenge in the country.

The army chief, who was in Benin on a working visit to formation and units, added, ”You must be proactive and be at alert. My visit to Benin is to get first-hand information and to boost your morale.

Mr. Yahaya also paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II.

He informed the monarch that he was on a working visit to formation and units in Edo.

The monarch commended the army’s fight against insurgency.

“We keep praying for the Nigerian Army for the wonderful efforts to keep the country together,” said the Benin monarch. ”It is not easy to keep and maintain peace. It is always a work in progress. But we commend you and your officers for keeping our nation peaceful despite the several challenges.”

He added that although sometimes peaceful resolution might seem elusive, prayers could make lasting solutions possible.

“There will always be conflict,” the monarch admitted. “But it’s the wisdom to find a lasting solution without resorting to a bloodbath that matters. We will always do our best from the palace with prayers to God and our ancestors, and remember that you have a home here in the palace for consultation anytime.”
