Concerned Nigerians on Tuesday demanded for equity and fairness for the South East and North Central to be given a shot on producing the next president as both zones have been marginalized on presidency over the years.
Speaking at an interactive session organized by the Team Nigeria for Change in Abuja, the Executive Producer, People’s Security Monitor, Alh. Isiaka Mustapha said the South East and North Central has been marginalized from the presidency, thus it is apt and only fair that they are given the opportunity to rule the country.
According to Mustapha, the session was aimed at discussing the possibilities of what the situation may likely look like in 2023, who takes over from President Mohammadu Buhari and other related matters.
He stated that the problem we are facing in this country is because of our political deficiency, noting that where a man comes from should not be an issue.
“Being a presidential candidate is only a step but the ultimate decision rest with the people, the people determines who they really want.
Highlighting Insecurity as a major challenge the country is faced with, Mustapha lauded the efforts of the Kogi state Governor, Yahaya Bello in containing issues of insecurity in Kogi state.
However, he noted that the group recommends that the Kogi state Governor, Yahaya Bello take the mantle of presidency representing the North Central should in case the South East is not given a shot, noting that Governor Bello has been rated to be proactive as a leader.
“We are of the opinion that the seat of the presidency in 2023 should be allotted to a competent and more productive young man. We are also of the view that the present Governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello ranks among these men.
“We are considering especially the area of security, Yahaya Bello has proven to have done well in that aspect in making sure that Kogi state is a safe state,” Mustapha said.
President Team Nigeria for Change, Otunba Bestman Jumbo-Nze in his address noted that the group assumed that the marginalization of the presidency has lingered on for too long, as the South East and the North Central has never had a shot.
Jumbo-Nze however urged Nigerians to support anybody who will make Nigeria better, and be able to handle the terrible situation of security in our country.
“Let Equity and fair play come to play,” he added.
