Jonathan’s kinsmen raise alarm over alleged sale of gas turbine
Kinsmen of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the Ogbia Local
Government Area of Bayelsa State have raised the alarm over the
alleged clandestine sale of the Kolo Creek Gas Turbine at Imiringi,
which supplies electricity to the area and some parts of the state.
They said that some unnamed buyers of the gas turbine were about to
surreptitiously take possession of the facility and move it to another
location outside Imiringi.
The traditional rulers of Emeyal clan, in a statement on Wednesday by
King N.D Amakuro, frowned at the development and described it as
“fraudulent and provocative.”
According to a statement, which was also signed by Chief Iwolisi
Jephthah and Mr Egbo Masi, the selling of the gas turbine was an
attempt to underdevelop and alienate the Ogbia Kingdom from Bayelsa
State and the good things of life.
The statement partly read, “For eight years, the facility was grounded
and the entire Ogbia Kingdom kept in darkness and no effort was made
to re-activate the gas turbine only for it to be sold.
“We will resist any attempt by any individual, group of persons or
organisation to remove the gas turbine from its present location at
Imiringi.”
The traditional rulers called on the Independent Corrupt Practices and
other Related Offences Commission as well as the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission to beam their searchlights into the
alleged criminal sale of the gas turbine and bring those involved to
book.
