Pensioners Appeal To Niger State Govt To Pay Retirees’ Gratuities
The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP has appealed to Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, to in the spirit of Ramadan, pay the backlog of benefits of its members.
This is contained in a letter to the Governor, signed by the Secretary of the Union, Abdullahi Sani, dated March 15.
According to the letter, the Union explained that the pensioners are suffering and feel abandoned, because their benefits are not settled, hence the passionate appeal to Governor Bago to do the needful.
It listed some of the critical and fundamental benefits of the retirees as payment of gratuity, consequential adjustment of the monthly pension as approved by the Federal Government since 2019, harmonisation of the monthly pension and settlement of the contributory pension scheme, arrears, and wage awards, among others.
The statement also pleaded with the Niger State Government to, as a matter of urgency, do the needful, to avert industrial crises and disharmony, and also implored the Union members to cooperate and show understanding, by allowing the Union to pursue their legitimate rights accordingly.
