Police In Arrest Ekiti Bank Robbers, Kidnap Kingpins

The Police Commissioner in Ekiti State, Dare Ogundare, on Friday, paraded 16 suspects over different reprehensive crimes with a promise that law enforcers in the state would live up to their responsibility to perform the mandatory and statutory duty of protection of lives and properties.

According to Punch, the suspects included eight men arrested in connection with bank robberies in parts of the state and four receivers of stolen items; a military impersonator and three others nabbed in connection with kidnapping and cattle rustling.

Ogundare said, “Upon credible tip-off, the Command’s Rapid Response Squad arrested one Dele Ajayi, Ifeanyi Emmanuel, Segun Ojo, Raymond Francis, Godwin Emeka and Odiri Isaac all in Ikorodu, Lagos State for their involvement in several bank robberies.

He said that the affected banks included Union Bank, Igede Ekiti in 2018: First Bank, Ifaki Ekiti in 2018; UBA, Oye-Ekiti in 2019; WEMA Bank in 2020; Access Bank, Ijero in 2018.

The CP said that the suspects were also involved in a highway robbery in Odogbolu, Ogun state and the kidnapping of one Olowo Bolaji at Ipoti-Ekiti on January 29, 2020.

He said that following the suspects’ confessions, four others, including one Shola Ayeni were arrested in Iloro-Ekiti as well as one Aremu Adebayo at Ijero-Ekiti who were allegedly members of the dreaded gang.

He said, “Upon the confession made by the arrested suspects, four receivers of stolen vehicles and other valuables namely Idris Ayodeji, Ayeni Tope, Tirimisiyu Giwa and Wasiu Alabi were arrested.

The CP said a fake military man, one Faponmile, was arrested in Ado-Ekiti by the Command operatives for wearing a military uniform and impersonating to be a military personnel, saying “Upon search conducted in the house and premises of the suspect, a complete military camouflage uniform, one camouflage knickers, two Navy vests and a pair of black boot were recovered.

He said that the suspects, as well as the three others arrested in connection with kidnapping and cattle rustling, would be taken to court for prosecution on completion of an ongoing investigation, which he said would lead to further arrests.
