Pregnant Woman Accuses Rivers Police of Torturing Detained Husband

Aniefiong, a pregnant housewife has demanded justice for her husband, Success Bassey, who is being detained at the Mini-Okoro Police Station in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Aniefiong told journalists in Port Harcourt that her husband’s former boss accused got him arrested on charges of robbery.

The woman said she started looking for her husband since December 5, 2022, until she got information that he was held at the police station.

On getting to the station, she said she could not recognise her husband again, as he had been beaten black and blue.

The pregnant housewife, while fighting back tears, said, “My husband’s former oga (boss) said it was him that brought criminals to come and pack his property. So, he arrested him.

“I started looking for my husband from one police station to another since December 5, until I saw him at Mino-Koro station. They (operatives) have beaten my husband severely.

“I didn’t even recognise him well. They turned him upside down inside a cell. I am not myself again. I want people to help me. My husband is sick and I want him to come back home.

“Now, I am even pregnant and the small baby I am carrying, no food for us to eat. I need people to help and I want justice for my husband because I know he is innocent.”

The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, promised to respond after speaking to the divisional police officer.

Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, had yet to get back to our correspondent as of the time of filing this report.
