Police Arrest 20-year-old woman for murder of co-wife with pestle

The Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman, Maryam Ibrahim for the alleged murder of her co-wife, Hafsat Ibrahim with a pestle in Bauchi State.

Police Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State command, SP Ahmed Mohammad Wakil, who made this known to journalists through a press release on Monday evening, said that the suspect, Maryam Ibrahim of Gar village, Pali ward of Alkaleri LGA was apprehended on 22nd November 2022.

According to the PPRO, the husband of the victim, 40 years old Ibrahim Sambo of Gar village of Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State on the 22nd November 2022, reported the incident at the Maina-maji Divisional Police Headquarters.

SP Wakil further said that Ibrahim Sambo reported that “on the same date at about 1200hrs, his second wife Maryam Ibrahim ‘f’ aged 20yrs of the same address used a pestle to hit his first wife Hafsat Ibrahim on the head in her room.”

The deceased’s husband informed the police that as a result, the victim sustained a serious degree of injury and was taken to the Primary Health-care centre, Gar village where she was certified dead by a medical doctor.

“On receiving the report, a team of detectives attached to the Command swung into action and arrested the suspect”, the PPRO said.

He noted that during interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime.
