Police Arraign Two in Lagos For Allegedly Terrorising Traders

Two men, Abiodun Adewole, 25; and Lekan Sonibare, 29; have been arraigned before Chief Magistrate L.O. Owolabi of the Samuel Ilori Court, Ogbà, for allegedly terrorising traders in the Agbotikuyo area of Agege, Lagos.

The traders had accused Adewole and Shonibare of threatening their lives and property.

The police were said to have arrested them after the traders’ association lodged a formal complaint.

The two defendants were charged with three counts of conspiracy, threat to lives, and conduct likely to cause breach of the peace.

The prosecutor, Josephine Ikhayere, said the defendants committed the offences on September 30.

The charges read in part, “That you, Abiodun Adewole, Lekan Shonibare, and others now at large, on September 30, 2022, around 04.30pm at Agbotikuyo Bus Stop, Off Ipaja Road, Agege, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did threaten the lives of Agbotikuyo Traders Association.”

The defence counsel, Munira Iroko, applied for bail in liberal terms.

“The two defendants are victims of circumstances,” she added.

Chief Magistrate Owolabi granted them bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The matter was adjourned till November 3 for mention.
