Kano Court Remands Chinese Killer of Ummukulthum, Clarifies Issues on Jurisdiction
A Magistrate Court in Kano under Magistrate Hanif Sanusi Ciroma, holds that the court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the case in which a Chinese national Geng Quanrong was brought before it for allegedly stabbing his Kano girlfriend Ummukulthum Sani Buhari (Ummita) to death.
The court however, ordered that the accused be remanded pending clarifications on matters of jurisdiction from the state Ministry of Justice.
In this regard, the prosecution counsel, Khalifa Awwal Hashim, appealed to the Court to return the accused to the a custodial facility since it had no jurisdiction pending the legal advice from the Kano State ministry of justice.
The court had ordered Quanrong to be remanded in Kurmawa Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kano.
The order of the court followed the arraignment of the accused person before the court by the police on a charge of culpable homicide contrary to section 221 of the penal code.
