Recruitment: Join Police to avoid marginalisation, AIG tells South-West youths

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Zone 11 Command, Osogbo, Osun State, Mukan Gobum, has urged the people of the South-West to encourage their youths to join the Nigeria Police Force.

Gobum, according to a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Ayeni, said this during a recruitment sensitisation and town hall forum held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday.

“Statistics shows that in the just concluded 2021 recruitment of constables, 81,005 candidates applied, while less than 10 per cent are from the southern part of the country,” Gobum, who was represented by DCP Ganiyu Salami, said.

He encouraged traditional rulers, religious organisations, political leaders and parents to encourage the youth to join the force.

The Chairman, Police Service Commission, Mr Musiliu Smith, said the Federal Government had approved the recruitment of 100,000 policemen over the next five years.
