Nigerian teenager makes his debut for Charlton
17-year-old Deji Elerewe makes his first appearance for Charlton Athletic senior team. The English teenager of Nigerian descent was part of the Charlton Squad in their 1-0 defeat to AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
Deji who was involved in most of the preseason training sessions for the Addicks was bound to make his debut sooner or later due to his good form during training.
Wearing the number 50 on the back of his jersey, The Centre half was handed a start by manager Nigel Adkins and gave a good account of himself in 90 minutes of action.
Watford loanee Dapo Mebude sparkled on his starting debut for AFC Wimbledon and received a standing ovation from the Dons supporters when he got replaced in the 63rd minute.
Predominantly a central defender and standing at 6ft 3in, Elerewe’s commanding presence at the heart of defence has seen him likened to Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk due to his similar playing style.
Elerewe is also comfortable playing in midfield and as a fullback.
