Lieutenant Gen. Azubuike O. Ihejirika (Rtd) former Chief of Army Staff has disclosed the reason for veering into partisan politics and his choice of joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
On February 15, 2021, Ihejirika, who was the Chief of Army Staff between 2010 – 2014 under former President Goodluck Jonathan, joined the APC at his Isuikwuato country home in Abia-North Senatorial District, Abia State.

Speaking on Tuesday at a church event in Ogbor Hill, Aba, the former Army chief said he joined the APC to contribute to the progress of the party at the state and national level.

Ihejirika added that he joined the APC in order to make life bearable for the people of the state, adding that all must get involved to contribute and ensure that things do not get worse but begin to get better.

“Having served almost 38 years in the military, I am convinced that it will be a waste of experience for me to remain outside government activities.

“This is because I have a lot to offer and assure you all that I will operate an open-door policy, I will also learn fast.“

My first goal is to unite the party, unity is very important because if we are united we can achieve all our goals for the state and the nation at large.“

We cannot continue to close our eyes while things get worse, so the need to join a party, contribute our views in trying to make things better is important,” he said
