8 vets for 1m Gombe cattle, sheep – FG
The Director of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Gombe State, Mr. Mohammed Inuwa, has lamented on the inadequacy of veterinary doctors working in the state.
According to him, the state has eight qualified veterinary doctor to cover and tend for over one million cattle, goat and sheep.
Inuwa said this on Tuesday in his address during the state-wide vaccination against contagious Bovine Pleuro-Pneumonia in cattle and Pestes Des Petits Ruminants in sheep and goats, at Gadam, in the Kwami Local Government Area.
He said, “It may interest the governor to note that Gombe State has eight qualified veterinary doctors serving the entire 11 LGAs. This is in abeyance to the recommend minimum of one veterinary doctor per local government area by the Veterinary Council of Nigeria.”
On his part, the Gombe State Commissioner for Agriculture, Muhammadu Magaji, appealed to the governor, Muhammadu Yahaya to employ more veterinary doctors.
