COVID-19: Abia Govt Shuts Five Hotels over Protocol Violation

Abia State Government has closed down five hotels operating in Aba North Local Government Area of the state for violating COVID-19 protocols.

The Covid-19 committee, which was led by Chief Thomas Nkoro, sealed the hotels for violating guidelines on covid-19 given to the hospitality industry by the state government.

Chief Nkoro also threatened to arrest people that fail to comply with the state government’s directives on COVID-19, adding those arrested would be prosecuted at the mobile court.

Meanwhile , the Abia State Government has banned all night clubs and cultural activities in the state.

The chairman of the state COVID-19 committee and Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chris Ezem, on Monday, stressed that any eatery or hotelier who contravenes the COVID-19 protocols would henceforth pay one hundred thousand naira fine.

According to Ezem, attendance at burials and wedding ceremonies have been restricted to 50 persons while churches are to accommodate only 50 persons per stream.

The state government has also made wearing of face masks compulsory in public, warning that any contravention would attract a fine of N5, 000.

He said the measures were put in place to contain the new wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
