250 Scholarships awarded in my constituency – Hon. Adeogun
House of Representatives member representing Akoko South East/ South West Federal Constituency, Hon. Adejoro Adeogun has enumerated some of his achievements so far since inception as a lawmaker in the green Chambers, including scholarship to about 250 persons.
The lawmaker also listed business funding to over 500 persons amongst others as some of his achievements so far.
“Number one problem in my Constituency is unemployment and there are few ways to deal with it, which entails getting connectors from different agencies who must definitely employ people in numbers and different security agencies like the police, the military, because they are agencies that can employ too. The ability to get to one or two parastatals like the transportation sector, support for some scale businesses, trying to at least help people to grow small businesses and see how we can develop economy for the poor communities within the constituency
is what I consider to be part of my achievement.
“So we have worked on that and I think the last count of the month we are able to have 400 to 500 people that we have aided with business support funds, empowerment with skills training and all that. We have been able to support some people to access government loans, we are working on another scheme to build an incubation center that incubate business in a particular environment, the whole idea is to have businesses in each environment because we believe that when we have a proper economy, we will be able to carry people along.
“In addition to reaching out to younger people, we have awarded scholarships for 250 people for three years scholarship for them to go to tertiary institutions and incidentally we are supporting to have a private university because the whole idea is if we have a private university in a community, that’s leading development at least for the interest of students; we will be able to create a new economic center
which will attract development. So we are chasing that in that regard. And on a personal note, I also have about 80 people that are employed and we paid them handsomely, which will enable them solve problems in their communities.
“Through this people we are able to do sensitization. I have also been able to attract government projects. At the moment, we are providing water in about seven different communities, motorized boreholes in different communities. We have helped some communities with electricity, renovated some town halls in some locations and providing supports to education, school desks, books, computers to at least aid education so at least you can see that my concentration is on human capacity development”, the lawmaker stated.
