Bashir Tofa, Kano Elders condemn Sanusi’s dethronement
A group of Kano elders led by the former presidential candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC), Alhaji Bashir Tofa, have expressed shock and disbelief over the removal of the former Emir of Kano Malam Muhammad Sanusi II.
In a statement in Kano on Monday, the group said the dethronement was sad, unfortunate and illegal. “In particular, we have vowed to sustain our judicial challenge to the unlawful law passed by the Kano State House of Assembly under which the governor purportedly removed the Emir,” the statement also said.
The group further urged residents of Kano to sue for peace and avoid actions that could lead to civil unrest.
